Local to Global is the name given to the church group set up in 2015 by Otley Parish Church. The name denotes our interest in specific work at home and abroad. For 2018 we have selected two charities which seek to support the needy and the vulnerable on their doorstep in multiple ways. We are excited at the prospect of supporting them financially and also taking the opportunity to raise awareness of their work.
KISIIZI HOSPITALis a Church of Uganda hospital situated in a remote valley in south-west Uganda, seven hours’ drive from the capital city of Kampala, and more than an hour away from the nearest tarmac road.
The local people are poor subsistence farmers, struggling to feed their families. Some travel more than 80 miles for help. The hospital has a small income from the Ugandan Government. Patients have to pay for their care but the hospital keeps user fees to a bare minimum and the shortfall in running costs needs to be made up by charitable donations. Over the years the hospital has evolved and developed many ministries to support the community. We hope that we will be able to share the work with you over the coming months.
CARING FOR LIFEis a local Christian charity established in 1987 to “share the love of Jesus” with deeply damaged and hurting people by providing unconditional long-term support, homes, love and friendship.
Caring for Life also run many projects, the most well-known being Crag House Farm at Cookridge in Leeds where visitors are welcomed to the Granary Restaurant, Farm Shop Nurseries and the Little Granary Coffee Shop. The Housing Support Team is currently working with over 130 vulnerable adults, many of whom have known only abuse and lack of love since their early years. They help by finding and maintaining safe housing and by providing advice, friendship and long-term support.
We will be finding out more about these two projects in the coming months – please keep them in you prayers.
