Otley Choral Society are busy rehearsing for their performance of Handel’s Messiah, along with their sister choir, Ilkley Choral Society. The choirs will be accompanied by the excellent Yorkshire Chamber Ensemble, with soloists Joanne Dexter, Hannah Mason, Stuart Laing and Paul Gibson and conducted by Jennifer Sterling.
Tickets are £15 for adults (those under 18 years are free) and are available from Brown’s Gallery, Otley or The Grove Bookshop, Ilkley.

After a performance of Handel’s Messiah to a packed Otley Parish Church in December, Otley Choral Society will be joined by Ilkley Choral Society again for this Spring Concert. The main work to be performed is Requiem by Fauré. The concert will also feature Five Mystical Songs by Vaughan Williams and a fascinating work by Gerald Finzi: Lo, The Full, Final Sacrifice. The choir will be accompanied on the organ by Alan Horsey and conducted by their musical director, Jennifer Sterling.

After a 2 year delay due to the pandemic, Otley Music Festival IS finally happening for real from 10th – 12th June 2022 with a fantastic programme of live music. It remains primarily a celebration of the musical talent of Otley and all profits will be donated to Otley Parish Church’s “Local to Global” charity initiative.

Each tree will have a collecting bucket and all donations collected will stay with that group for them to use in their good work in our local community. There will be musical performances each day and a cafe (Thursday to Saturday until 5pm). Admission is free, but please be generous!

The children’s choir from Westgate Primary School and The Chippendale Singers will celebrate the return of the Otley Christmas Tree Festival (7th to 10th December) with this Christmas Concert on the 9th. There will be plenty of opportunity for audience participation with the singing of traditional carols, and the two choirs will sing other Christmas music, both jointly and separately.
The children’s choir will be conducted by their headteacher, Helen Carpenter, and accompanied by Martin Campey, and the adults will be led by their Musical Director, Jackie Armitage. There will also be a raffle.
Tickets are £5.00 each and under-16s will be free. Tickets will be available from choir members, Westgate Primary School and Town Centre outlets nearer the time. Proceeds will be shared by the Parish Church, the School and the Chippendale Singers.
